Miracle Detox Drink – ABC Juice

Feels great to be back after a short break with my folks, all rejuvenated & upbeat to share some more awesome recipes with you. As I said in my last post of the year, I had decided to focus on more mindful eating in the brand new year, ensuring a complete balanced diet in my daily meals as far as possible, without cutting out any vital nutrients. I have found that it never quite worked out for me when I totally cut out carbs, sugars or fats and I would eventually land up binge eating at some other time of day.

A balanced diet implies an inclusion of carbohydrates, proteins, vitamins, minerals, fats & some probiotic to aid digestion. This would include either or both vegetarian protein as well as non vegetarian protein foods.

The importance of nuts, seeds, whole grains & pulses, fresh fruit & vegetables, leafy green vegetables, yoghurt, freshly cut raw salads as well as some amount of healthy oils & ghee in our daily meals can never be undermined, allowing for the occasional intake of your favourite deep fried food or chocolate and puddings as well, to avoid major cravings at a later time.

Another crucial point to note while eating mindfully is to limit the intake of processed foods as far as possible; for example items made with all purpose flour such as bread, biscuits, pastas, processed white sugar such as store bought branded cereals, colas, saturated fats such as in chips and other deep fried foods should all be consumed in moderation.

Lastly, remember to eat as much locally grown grains, oils, cereals, pulses, nuts, fruits & vegetables as possible as compared to packet foods with preservatives, additives, food colouring & high quantities of hidden sugar and salt.

I wish to begin the new year by sharing a delightful detoxifying recipe for a simple homemade, wonder drink known as ABC juice with its three musketeers- Apple Beetroot Carrot. I add a wee bit of ginger & lime to balance the flavours & enhance the taste. This has no added sugar.

While it is most certainly better to eat the whole vegetables & fruits (raw/cooked) as compared to juicing & straining it, this is for those days when you are craving a refreshing cool juice after your gym workout or yoga without any added sugars.

A gorgeous ruby red juice, it offers a low calorie, high fibre content & is loaded with vitamin A, B complex, C, E & K, believed to help in immunity building, work wonders on your skin & rejuvenate your vital organs in the body, carotene-rich to keep your cholesterol in check, great for body detox & aiding blood purification & production of haemoglobin etc.

My kids just simply love the colour & flavour & I enjoy the addition of lime & ginger that cuts the sweetness for me! Hope you enjoy this drink as much as my family does.

Cheers to a rainbow start to your new year with a colourful food week ahead with me!
